BMW stands for Bayerische Motoren Werke. This translates simply to “Bavarian Motor Works”. Many Chino Hills drivers may be surprised that BMW isn’t run by another parent company, like so many other auto manufacturers. BMW is still owned by BMW; indeed, it actually controls two other well-respected brands, Rolls Royce and MINI.
BMW shares are half-owned by old investors in the company. 23.7% is owned by Stefan Quandt, a german engineer and industrialist. Another 19.2% is owned by his sister–an economist who also owns the company Altana–Susanne Klatten. Just over half of the remaining shares are part of what is known as the “Public Float,” representing all the publicly-owned shares of the BMW group.
So, if BMW headquarters is located in Munich, where is BMW made? Unsurprisingly, many BMW vehicles are made in Germany, in a town called Dingolfing. There are other BMW assembly plants scattered about Europe and even China. Here are all the answers to the question, “Where is BMW made?”
